Introduction and Objectives: Nowadays unlimited opportunities for new antiviral drugs can be provided by natural products as pure compounds and also plant extracts. Avian influenza; known informally as avian flu or bird flu, refers to "influenza caused by viruses adapted to birds. The virus that causes the disease in birds can change (mutate) so it can spread to humans. These viruses occur naturally among wild aquatic birds worldwide and can infect domestic poultry and other bird and animal species. This study was done to investigate antiviral potential of two plant extracts Matricariarecutita L.and Allium ascalonicum L.against Avian Influenza virus.
Materials and Methods:To this aim extracts of two plants were ready and adjacented to virus. EID50 of virus and virus/extract was calculated for any case by Reed and Muench method. Antiviral activities were calculated as the difference of virus titer between treated and untreated infected control eggs and expressed by inhibition percentage (IP).
Result: At finally antiviral activity of Matricariarecutita L.and Allium ascalonicum L.were determined 10 1.73 and 101.25 respectively and this means that extracts are able to reduce viral potency more than 23 and 17 folds respectively.
Conclusion: Each two extracts were found effective and Matricariarecutita L. was more effective than Allium ascalonicum L..
